For standard modular bricks (7-5/8" long x 2-1/4" high) with standard 3/8-inch mortar joints, nominal face dimensions are 8" x 2-2/3". This yields approximately 6.75 bricks per square foot for a single-wythe wall. For double-wythe solid walls, you need 13.5 bricks per square foot.

How many bags of mortar do I need per 100 or 1,000 bricks?

As an industry standard rule of thumb, one 80-pound bag of premixed masonry mortar lays approximately 30 to 35 standard modular bricks with 3/8" joints. Therefore, you need about 3 bags per 100 bricks, or 28 to 33 bags of mortar per 1,000 bricks.

What is the difference between single wythe and double wythe brick walls?
