Problems Solved by the Siding Calculator

1

Gable Geometry Mistakes

Gables create triangular cut-off scrap along the roof pitch. Our calculator uses exact triangular geometry and adds recommended rake angle waste buffers.

2

Siding Square Conversion

Eliminates confusion between raw square feet and industry standard 'Squares' (100 sq ft) required when ordering cartons from siding distributors.

3

J-Channel & Trim Shortages

Running out of J-channel stops an installation cold. We calculate exact 12.5-ft channel pieces for all windows, doors, and roof rakes.

4

Housewrap Lap Allowance

Factors 6-inch weather-resistant barrier seam overlaps so building inspection moisture wrapping requirements are fully satisfied.

How to Use the Siding Calculator

Step 1

Measure Walls

Measure the height and length of each exterior rectangular wall section to calculate the base wall surface area.

Step 2

Calculate Gables

Measure the base width and peak height of all roof gable triangles using the formula: Area = 0.5 × Base × Peak Height.

Step 3

Deduct Openings

Measure the width and height of large windows, entry doors, and garage doors to subtract their square footage from the gross wall area.

Step 4

Convert to Squares

Divide net square footage by 100 to determine siding Squares, and add a 10% to 15% cut-off waste factor.

Step 5

Review Cartons & Trims

Calculate cartons of siding (typically 2 Squares per carton), rolls of housewrap, linear feet of starter strip, and J-channel trim pieces.

Key Features

Squares & Cartons

Converts net square feet directly to industry standard Squares (100 sq ft) and manufacturer 2-Square cartons.

Gable Triangle Solver

Calculates exact peak triangular area (0.5 × Base × Height) with automatic rake trim allowances.

Full Trim Accessory Takeoff

Generates complete component bills: starter strip, 12.5-ft J-channels, 10-ft corner posts, and housewrap.

Contractor Ready Export

Instantly formats and copies material quantities directly for supplier pricing and delivery orders.
